Big things are happening at our (not so Little) House on the Hill and it’s made for a super crazy couple of weeks. We’ve built and installed the IKEA kitchen cabinet boxes, shiplapped (that’s a word, right?) the fireplace, installed a few light fixtures, ordered and had doors and trim delivered, tiled the upstairs hall […]Read More
Hi there! Happy New Year! I hope you all had a wonderful New Year’s celebration. The husband and I spent the weekend assembling and hanging our IKEA cabinet boxes (more on that later) and it was a long weekend of really late nights, but it’s been so worth it!
We’ve had a really busy last couple of weeks at the house with one of the biggest, most anticipated steps finally being completed…THE FLOORS WENT IN! After much hemming and hawing about potentially installing the floors ourselves, we decided that our old crappy sub-floor on the main floor was reason enough to spend the money and have the professionals do it. We found an awesome local company, Green Wood Guys, to install the floors and they not only did so at a reasonable price, they took the time to figure out how to properly lay the weird product we purchased (the boards were essentially glued/finger-jointed smaller boards assembled into 8′ boards and they needed to figure out how to lay the boards so that the seams didn’t meet too much). If you’re in the market for refinishing your floors or installing new floors, we highly recommend these guys!
Anyway, without further ado, I give you THE FLOORS!Read More
Happy Tuesday! I hope you all had a fantastic, relaxing holiday weekend with your loved ones. Anyone excited to be back at work??? No? Not you? Yeah…me neither since it means the long weekend of major progress the husband and I made on the house is over 😦 but alas, some of us need paying […]Read More
Sorry for being a bit MIA the last couple of weeks, things have been a bit crazy around here! There has been MAJOR progress on our (not so) Little House on a Hill that I’m super excited to share with you…WE HAVE WALLS! And I’m not talking just framing…like actual, real-life, solid walls that you […]Read More
As you’ve probably gathered by now, I’m a HUGE fan of DIY. I’ll DIY (or at least attempt) almost anything. It’s not just a budget consideration (though my initial rationale does tend to be “that doesn’t look that complicated”), but rather just that I like to make things. I’ve always liked to make things, so now that […]Read More
It seems I’ve found myself in another design nerd dilemma, and I need your help! For those of you who have been following along, you know that our master bathroom has been designed for a while. The plan is to have a very timeless black and white design with a bit of a retro feel […]Read More
Happy Turkey Day! I hope you’re all preparing yourself for good times with good people and delicious absurd amounts of food tomorrow! Sorry for the lack of updates last week it was a CRAZY one filled with really late nights, countless trips to Home Depot (or “the Deeps” as the husband and I lovingly refer […]Read More
For those of you who follow the husband or I on Instagram, this will not be news to you…for the rest of you…THE FLOORS HAVE ARRIVED! Boy was Monday a challenge (and the bruises on my arms would have to agree)!Read More
…right? I mean, that’s basically all budgets and building come down to. How/where do I find a cheaper version of this, how do we build that to make it fit/look right/be what it’s supposed to be. So when we ran into an issue this weekend that the husband believed could only be solved by buying more […]Read More
As our rough-in plumbing nears completion, I’m getting more and more excited about our reno jobs starting up again. I know a lot of you think I’m crazy, but the prospect of tiling and painting makes me so happy! Being covered in paint, thin-set and grout – yes please!Read More
